Short but good. More of a visual novel. The "gameplay" grew to be a chore. Most of the time, you read books by tapping approaching thought bubbles, but there's no clicker system like the first game. I ended up just wanting to get through with it to get to the parts I actually like. The picture books were nice. The dream art, and writing were captivating. I felt Es's loneliness and boredom. I liked Es already and I grew to love her more. If you liked Alter Ego, Alter Ego Complex is worth playing!

It feels like this game is building up character backstory to Es, which means in-universe the Facade, the room Es is trapped in, and everything is real, it's not just a metaphor. Considering that, it's really annoying that this game just spins it's wheels showing different what ifs for stories Es could be slotted into. Like "wouldn't it be cool if we made a sequel where Es got out of the room, and you could have fun adventures together?" And, yeah that would be cool... So why not just make that?

This game is an interesting exploration of Es's character. You'll have to play the first Alter Ego game to understand most of the meaning in this game. It helps the player see what type of thoughts Es has while they are away and how she feels about the player. The only 2 flaws this game had was that it was too short and that the text scrolling for books was a bit slow. Other than that, it was an enjoyable experience for me.
